Foster Volunteer
TNR Trapper
Colony Cat Feeder & Care
Adoption Counselor
Responsibilities
-
Provide daily care including feeding, litter box maintenance, and monitoring health and behavior.

Help socialize cats and kittens so they become comfortable with people and home environments.

Communicate updates, photos, and any medical or behavioral concerns to the rescue team.
-
Transport animals to scheduled veterinary appointments or adoption events when needed.
-
Work with the organization to prepare animals for adoption.
Requirements
-
Previous fostering or animal care experience preferred.
-
Fosters should indicate what type of fostering they are comfortable with (kittens, adult cats, socialization, or medical recovery).

Must have a separate, dedicated space to house foster animals away from personal pets.

Understand that rescue animals may arrive with unknown health histories and potential contagious illnesses.

Patience and experience with animal care.

Spanish or Portuguese language skills are highly valued to help communicate with adopters and community members.
Responsibilities
-
Humanely trap community cats using approved trapping equipment.
-
Coordinate trapping schedules with veterinary appointments for spay/neuter.

Monitor traps to ensure the safety and welfare of trapped cats.
-
Safely transport trapped cats to designated holding areas or veterinary clinics.
-
Assist with returning cats to their outdoor homes after surgery and recovery.

Requirements

Ability to safely handle humane traps.

Must understand that feral cats may carry parasites or contagious illnesses.

Follow proper hygiene, sanitation, and biosecurity protocols after trapping.

Access to a vehicle capable of transporting large humane traps.

Ability to lift and move traps weighing at least 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

Provide consistent feeding and fresh water to managed community cat colonies.

Monitor cats for illness, injuries, or new kittens.

Maintain clean and discreet feeding areas.

Volunteer Coordinator
Responsibilities

Communicate with residents and neighbors in areas where community cat colonies are present.

Educate the public about Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) and its benefits.
-
Explain Project Eartip and ear‑tipping as identification of sterilized cats.
-
Help identify new colonies or unsterilized cats in need of TNR.
-
Distribute informational materials and assist with placing Managed Cat Colony signs.
-
Report new kittens, colony changes, or concerns to the rescue team.

Friendly and comfortable speaking with community members.

Strong communication and conflict‑resolution skills.

Responsibilities
-
Represent H.E.L.P. For Pets, Inc. at community events and outreach initiatives.

Distribute educational materials about community cats, TNR, and responsible pet ownership.

Educate community members about the importance of spaying and neutering both cats and dogs.

Inform the public about H.E.L.P. For Pets, Inc.’s low‑cost spay/neuter program through affiliated veterinary partners.

Assist with TNR transports, bringing humanely trapped community cats to spay/neuter clinics and returning them after recovery.

Transport cats between foster homes, adoption events, and veterinary clinics as needed.

Ensure animals are safely secured in carriers or traps during transport.

Communicate with the volunteer coordinator regarding scheduling, pick-up, and drop-off times.
